تبحث الدراسة في دور حمض الإندول-3-بروبيونيك (IPA)، وهو مستقلب تنتجه ميكروبات الأمعاء، في معالجة العجز السلوكي والعصبي المرتبط بالميكروحذف في المنطقة الكروموسومية 16p11.2، المرتبطة باضطراب طيف التوحد (ASD) وغيرها من الاضطرابات النمائية العصبية. تسلط الدراسة الضوء على أن الفئران ذات النمط الجيني 16p11.2 +/- أظهرت اختلالًا في ميكروبات الأمعاء وانخفاضًا كبيرًا في مستويات IPA، إلى جانب عجز ملحوظ في
